Jamie Freedlund is the co-founder and executive director of Mattea’s Joy, a non-profit organization committed to bringing care, connection and community to families with hospitalized children since 2010. Her experience bedside at a hospital with her daughter, Mattea, for the better part of a year allowed her to peek behind the curtain of what it means to be a caregiver to a medically fragile child and the life challenges that go along with those circumstances. As a result, she developed a passion for creating spaces of connection and educating others on best practices that invite joy into life’s unexpected, and sometimes tragic, moments. She began Discover joy. with the intention of helping others discover joy more fully in their lives, despite life’s challenges.
Jamie and her husband, Gary, live in Illinois and have four children - three who live down the hall from them, Reese, Cooper, and Kipton, and Mattea who lives in heaven. She is an avid fan of all things Pixar, geeks out about making a space more functional, and has a larger than average love of exploring new places.
She believes that her life experiences are revealing the person that she was created to become and enjoys facilitating groups and conversations around the topics of joy, grief, service, and gratitude.
